Abstract

Ethanol extract of ambon banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) peel has antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa, S. typhi, S. aureus, and E. coli, while the ethanol extract of ambon banana leaves has antibacterial activity against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. This study aims here to determine antibacterial activity of the combination of ethanol extract of ambon banana peel and leaves against P. aeruginosa, S. typhi, and S. aureus and also to know the difference of antibacterial activity combination compared to single uses. Extraction was done maceration with 96% ethanol. Antibacterial activity preliminary test with diffusion method used five serial concentrations which are 5; 7.5; 10; 12.5; and 15 µg/disk. Negative control uses DMSO 100%, while positive control uses levofloxacin 5 µg/disk. The concentration which used for combination based on zone of inhibition minimal 10 mm and radical. Antibacterial activity combination was made in comparison of ethanol extract ambon banana leaves and peel, with ratio 75:25; 50:50; and 25:75, and volume of test solution 10 µL. Data of antibacterial activity test was called zone of inhibition which analyzed statistically by One Way ANOVA with 95% level of confidence. The result showed that the combination of ethanolic extract of ambon banana leaves and peel has antibacterial activity against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and S. typhi. All of combination had a difference activity compared to single use.
