Abstract

Red pomelo fruit (Citrus maxima Merr) are a plant widely consumed by some people as fruits. The red pomelo fruit peel waste so far not been utilized. One of the contain of pomelo peels is flavonoid, that has an antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine of antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of red pomelo fruits peel (FEAEEKJBM) using DPPH method, its also and to determine total flavonoid content by colorimetric method. Extract of red pomelo fruit peel was obtained by cold method known as extraction is percolation using ethanol 96% as solvent, and then fractionation was performed with n-hexan and ethyl acetate. This study used FEAEEKJBM. The quantitative antioxidant activity was used to obtain IC 50 value using spectrocolorimetry used at λ max 516,70 nm with quercetin as positive control. Tests of total flavonoid content was performed using by colorimetric method with AlCl3 reagent. The results showed that FEAEEKJBM has a moderate antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 60,933 ppm and quercetin has a strong antioxidant activity with IC 50 value of 6,054 ppm. With its total flavonoid content is 67,79 mgEQ/g extract.
