Abstract

Methanol extract of taro leaf contain flavonoid. Flavonoid potentially as anticancer. One of the flavonoid mechanism works as an anticancer by way of apoptosis induction. This study aims to knowing potential cytotoxic of methanol extract of taro leaf (Colocasia esculenta L. Schott) on T47D cell line which declared with a value IC 50 through induction of apoptosis. The extract was made through soxhletasi process using methanol solvent. Cytotoxicity test using MTT assay method with concentration 62,5; 125; 250; 500; 1000 µg/ml. Observation was done against absorbance data from viability cell obtained by using ELISA reader. Data percentage viability T47D cell line used for calculate a value IC 50 with analytical probit use SPSS 16 for windows program. Observation of apoptosis was done by double staining method using ethidium bromide-akridine orange reagent. The result showed that methanol extract of taro leaf had cytotoxic effect against T47D cell line with a value IC50 726,909 µg/ml through induction of apoptosis.
