Abstract
The lime fruits are known to contain high flavonoid compounds, in which one of the effects of flavonoids is as antioxidant. This study aims to determine antioxidant activity of lime juice by ABTS method (2,2-Azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline) -6-sulfonic acid), and it also determine its total flavonoid content. The fruits were thoroughly washed and squeezed to obtain the juice. The antioxidant activity was measured by ABTS method with visible spectrophotometer at maximum wavelength of 753.2 nm to obtain IC 50 using vitamin C standard as positive control. The presence of flavonoid compound was identified with magnesium powder and concentrated HCl as reagent. The total flavonoid content was determined by spectrocolorimetric method using AlCl3 reagent and rutin standard that results giving in rutin equivalent (mg RE/g sample). The results showed that lime juice had antioxidant activity with IC 50 value of 55,99 µg/mL, whereas vitamin C standard had IC 50 value of 6,95 µg/mL. Lime juice contain flavonoid compound and its total flavonoid content was 0,13 mg RE/g sample.
