Abstract
Coconut waste contains galactomannan which can expand to gel form in water and become a sticky mass, so it can be used as a binder tablets. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of coconut dregs as a binder to the physical and chemical properties of paracetamol tablets. Tablets of paracetamol were prepared by wet granulation method using coconut pulp flour as a binder with variation concentration of 7.5%; 10%; 12.5% and 15%. The tablets obtained were tested for physical character including weight uniformity, hardness, friability, disintegration of tablet for chemical properties including examination of paracetamol content in tablets and dissolution testing paddle method. The results showed that uniformity of weights qualified, but hardness, friability do not meet the requirements. Whereas chemical properties of paracetamol tablet fulfill the requirements.Dissolution test showedthat FI 58.69%; FII 55.6%; FIII 57.35% and FIV 55.49% does not fulfill the requirements from literature. Tablet dissolution test results are analyzed using Kruskal wallis and obtained F value of 0.147 so it can be concluded that there is no significant difference between formulas. . Keywords : Coconut pulp, Binder, Galaktomanan, Tablet Paracetamol.
