Abstract

The phenomenon of globalization has influenced the growing movement of Indonesians abroad which is growing every year. Such circumstances make legal cases that affect and involve Indonesian citizens abroad can no longer be avoided. Legal problems faced by Indonesian citizens abroad are very varied, such as criminal, civil, employment, and immigration. Thus, as a sovereign government, the Government has an obligation to provide legal services and protection for troubled Indonesian citizens abroad. This research focuses on the case of Siti Aisyah who was involved in the killing of Kim Jong-nam in Malaysia on February 13, 2017. Kim Jong-nam is Kim Jong-un's half-brother who is the current leader of the North Korean regime. In this case, Siti Aisyah threatened the death penalty and the Government of Indonesia decided to provide assistance and legal protection. The purpose of this research is to uncover the basics and reasons of the Government of Indonesia to provide assistance and legal protection to Siti Aisyah who is the suspect of Kim Jong-nam's murder.
