Abstract

Papaya peel (Carica papaya L.,) contains flavonoid substance which able to reduce UV light. Ekthanol extract of papaya peel lotion is a simple topical dosage form and being used as a sunscreen to protect the skin form sunlight. This study aims to evaluate physicochemical characters and SPF value of lotion. Papaya peel extract was done by maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent. Papaya peel ethanol extract lotion formulation use oil in water emulsion (O/W) using smelting method, FI 15%, F II 20%, F III 25%, positive control kojic lotion SPF 25, and negative control without extract. Physic chemical properties of lotion dosage form then examined includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesive force and spread force test descriptively. While SPF value counted statiscally using ANOVA and tuckey in confidence level of 95%. Organoleptic result of lotion is semisolid form, light to dark concentrations increase the pH value, viscosity, adhesive force, SPF value, and decrease the spreading level. SPF value result include : 7,34 (extra protection), 7,65 (extra protection), and 10,97 (maximal protection). While statistic analysis result showed that all formulas don’t have the not same SPF value with positive control (Sig > 0,05)
