Abstract

The combination of traditional medicine and antibiotics in the community may happen. The combinations could altered the effect of antibiotics. This study aims to find out the profile of tetracycline antibacterial activity after combined with Ethanol Extract of Averrhoa bilimbi leaves (EEAL) against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus sp. The research is an experimental with post test only control group design. Extraction process of Averrhoa bilimbi leaves using maceration method with 96% ethanol. Antibacterial activity test was done by diffusion method. The negative control uses DMSO 20% as an extract solvent and sterile aquadest as tetracycline solvent. Tetracycline 10 μg/disk and EEAL 15000 μg/disk are concentrations used for combination against S. aureus, whereas 0,5 μg/disk tetracycline and EEAL 3500 μg/disk are used for Bacillus sp. The combination of tetracycline with EEAL made into three ratio K1 (25:750, K2 (50:50), and K3 (75:25). Data analysis of the zone of inhibition were statistically using Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney at 95% confidence level. The results showed that combination tetracycline and EEAL has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus sp., and antibacterial activity of K2 and K3 were different statistically that zone of inhibition are smaller when compared with a single tetracycline.
