Abstract

Ethanolic Leaf Betel Extract (Piper betle Linn) has efficacy as antirepellent. M/A lotion preparation with M/A base will result in more easily dispersed and quick-drying lotion after polishing and non sticking coating on the skin. This research is to determine the effect of M/A base on lotion on physicochemical properties and skin irritation on rabbit skin to know antirepllent lotions do not cause irritation after exposure to the skin. Etiholic Leaf Betel (LEEDS) is made in 3 formulas, where in each formula has a different concentration with the base M/A (cetyl alcohol: stearic acid: : trietinolamine) FI (2: 6: 2); FII (3: 5: 2) and FII (4: 4: 2). The finished lotion was done by examination of physicochemical properties of lotion (shape, color, odor / aroma, texture, pH, viscosity) and losion also tested irritation with Draize method then observed erythema and edema for 72 hours 24th, 48th and 72th. Lotion in the data analysis is to test orgenoleptis, homogeneity test is analyzed descriptively. The results of physical chemical risk karactristik test data (viscosity, pH, adhesiveness and spreading) and irritation test were analyzed. The results of organoleptic and homogeneity studies of LEEDS with variation of M / A base have semi-thick, green color, distinctive smell of betel leaf and not rancid. While the other physicochemical properties of basic concentrations can increase viscosity, dispersion and down pH and adhesion. The M / A base variation on LEEDS did not have a significant difference (0,317> 0,05) on the primary irritation index score wherein FI (1,3), in FII (2,0) and FIII (2,3) including mild irritation .
