Abstract
Papayapeel (Carica papaya L.) contains a phenolate compounds called flavonoid. It could be used as natural sunscreen. The ethanol extract contained in papaya leafis effective and efficient formulated as a suitable gel preparation for topical application. The purpose of this research is to find out how the characteristics of chemical physics and SPF value with concentration variations of ethanol extract from papaya , control (+) Wardah SPF 30 and control (-). The ethanol extractwas obtained using maceration method taking ethanol 70%. The gel preparation was prepared in 3 formulas based on the variation of concentration extract, that is F1 = 15%; F2 = 20; F3 = 25% and by using control (+) Wardah SPF 30 and control (-) without extract. Then physical and chemical characteristics of the gel obtained from the maceration were tested. The test includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreading capacity and then the SPF values calculated. Organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, adhesion, dispersion and viscosity were analyzed descriptively. In the other hand SPF values calculated statistically and analyzed by Anova test using Tuckey with 95% accuracy level. The Organoleptic test results a blackish brown gel, a typical papaya aroma and semi-solid texture, rather sticky when applied. The concentrationextract enhancement increases the pH, adhesion and viscosity. The result of SPF values are 13,533 (maximum protection), 19,826 (maximum protection) and 22,813 (ultra protection). The statistical analysis results showed that all formulas do not have the same activity as positive controls (sig >0.05)
