Abstract

Parijoto leaves contain tannins and flavonoids that are able to treat diarrhea. Tannin compounds and flavonoids are proven to be used as antimotility. The aim of this study was to prove scientifically the ability of parijoto leaf extract as an intestinal antimotility agent using intestinal transit method. The Design used was Randomized Matched postest only Control Group Design. 25 mice that were fasted were divided into 5 groups. Group I was given suspension of PGA 3% 10 mL/KgBW, group II was given loperamide HCl 1.5 mg/KgBW, and group III, IV, and V were treated with parijoto leaf ethanol extract (500, 1000, 2000) mg / kgBW. After 45 minutes all mice were given norit suspension of 10 mL per oral and left for 20 minutes. After that, the abdominal cavity of the mice was dissected to measure and compare the length of the intestine that passed the norit marker with the entire intestine length. The results of the data on differences in the ratio of intestinal length passed by norit markers to the overall intestinal length were analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA, and LSD test at 95% confidence level. The value of ED50 of parijoto leaf ethanol extract as antimotility agent was carried out by Probit analysis. The results showed that parijoto leaf ethanol extract with (500, 1,000, and 2,000) mg/KgBW have efficacy as an antimotility agent with inhibitory level of 22, 46%, 37,31 %, and 44,36%. in sequence. The potential of PLEE stated in ED50 has an inhibitory level of 2527,691mg/KgBw. Keyword : parijoto leaf ethanol Extract, antimotility.effect, transit intestinal
