Abstract
Guava leaf contains flavonoid, saponin, and tannin, that can heal burns. Gel preparation is best used for burns because of long lasting gel adhesivity, and its base is mostly water so its cooling effect is great. This research aims to determine the effect of concentration variation of ethanol extract of guava leaves (EEGL) against the chemical physics characteristics gel and effectivity of burn wound healing. This research is an experimental using post test only control group design. Guava leaf extraction was done by maceration method and etanol 70% as solvent. The gel was prepared by 3, 5, and 7 of EEGL concentration variation, and then tested its chemical physics characteristict (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesivity, and spreadibility). Wound healing performed on wistar strain rats that has been burned on his back. Rats were divided into 5 groups. Groups 1-3 were given EEGL gel respectively 3, 5, and 7%, group 4 (negative control) were given gel without extract and groups 5 (positive control) were given bioplacenton. All treatment were given twice a day on morning and evening. Organoleptic and homogeneity are described descriptively. Viscosity, pH, and percentage of burn wound healing effectivity on day 17 were analyzed by Kruskal Wallis and followed by Mann Whitney test. Adhesivity and spreadibility data were analyzed by One Way Anova and followed by LSD test with 95% of confidence interval. The result showed that gel with the increase of EEGL concentration, colored greenish brown, distinctive smell of guava leaf, homogeneity, there were no difference of viscosity and spreadability, the lower the pH with increase the adhesiveness. The higher concentration of EEGL, the better heal the burn. EEGL concentration of 7% in the gel can heal burns for 99,30%.
