Abstract

Free radicals cause degenerative diseases. Natural antioxidants from plants can be used to ward off free radicals, one of which is skin of aloe vera. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity by DPPH method and to identify the presence of flavonoid group compounds contained in the water fraction of methanol extract of the skin of Aloe vera (Aloe vera L.). The extraction was done by maceration method using methanol solvent, followed by fractionation using Water solvent. Testing of antioxidant activity was performed by DPPH method in concentration series 100; 200; 300; 400; 500 and 600 μg / mL. Vitamin C at concentration 1; 2; 3; 4; 5 and 6 μg / mL are used as comparators, Data analysis using probit analysis to determine IC 50 value. Identification of flavonoid compounds by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The results showed that the fraction of water extract methanol aloe vera has antioxidant activity with IC 50 value of 238,032 μg / mL and vitamin C 4,655 μg / mL. TLC results show the presence of a class of flavonoid compounds in the Water fraction.
